All State Opening Number

Students will have the opportunity to participate in a large group Opening Musical Number presented at the Opening Session of the Conference. Students interested in participating in this performance will need to be recommended by their school sponsor during conference registration. Each sponsor may recommend up to 2 students who they feel have strong musical theatre performance abilities.

*Students who are recommended will automatically be included in the Opening Number but they still need to submit an audition video.   Submit your audition video to https://bit.ly/OpeningNumber24 Audition videos should consist of 16-32 bars of a musical theatre song w/ instrumental background music and a 30-45 second choreography performance of any musical theatre dance (could be from a past musical) and any special tricks or skills, including tap. Audition videos must be submitted by November 3rd.

Students participating in Opening Number will receive the music and choreography in advance which should be memorized prior to our first rehearsal.

*Participants must be available for rehearsal on January 3rd from 9 pm-11 pm and January 4th from 8 am-10 am.

Works in Progress

Works-In-Progress are any scenes or musical numbers that have not yet reached performance. You may bring whatever you'd like for whatever step you are at in the process. A song, a dance, an acting scene, leads only, full cast, ensemble only - anything on or off-book that shows a glimpse of what you are working on! It will be a fun and supportive experience. Great way to test out the voices, the dances, and the script.

  • Strictly enforced 10-minute time limit.
  • Bring your own Pre-Recorded piano track. (Musical)
  • No microphones or lighting effects will be available.
  • You may bring whatever props or costumes you want, but you do not need anything. Many schools perform in show shirts. (No official dressing rooms will be provided)
  • There is NO time or space for set pieces.
  • You may only enter pieces that are Works-In-Progress.
  • WIPS are NOT adjudicated.
  • Troupe Directors must register for WIPS, and there is no supplementary application.

W.I.Ps offers a fantastic opportunity to bring a more extensive group theatrical selection to the conference. Missouri Thespians want to encourage our active troupes to showcase more of the tremendous work in our state throughout the year. The state conference is a wonderful opportunity to create a performance experience unlike any other. If you have any questions please email Ryan VanDyke
